Research Engineer - Polymer Composites:

The person in this position will undertake materials research to develop novel processing of polymetric composite materials for high volume manufacturing, design the test methods to characterize various composite materials systems, and conduct structural testing of components made of composite materials. other responsibilities will include data analysis, report preparation and presentation of project information to other research colleagues. The candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the various teams working on the manufacturing, product development. and design of composite materials on a large project.

Skills Required:
Strong background in formulation and testing of polymer materials. Development of laboratory test methods, creation, and execution of design of experiments. Ability to prepare written reports and present results to research teams inside and outside GM.

  • Polymer composite material testing - Instron and Drop Tower
  • Polymer Analysis - TGA, DMA and DSC etc.
  • Polymer processing and molding - preferred
  • Research experience Compression and vacuum bay molding properties.
  • Test Lab Experience including the following: Instron instruments, tensile testing, 3-point bend testing, impact drop tower testing.
  • Ability to provide analysis on data summary reports.
  • Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word and Powerpoint.

Experience Required:
Thermoset forming, compression molding of composite materials. Extensive knowledge in characterizing the constituents such as fiber and resin for both chemical and mechanical properties. Experience with lab instruments for coupon level testing, data acquisition systems.

Education Required:

Bachelors in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Master of science degree preferred.
